Our First Mariners – Sea Country People

Immerse yourself in the rich, timeless traditions of Tasmania’s Aboriginal maritime culture. Uncle Rex Greeno’s traditionally crafted paperbark ningher (canoe) offers a glimpse into the traditional watercraft that once connected communities, and Aunty Lola Greeno’s stunning shell necklaces tell stories of heritage and beauty. These exhibits and the heartfelt storytelling of Dave mangenner Gough reveal the profound connection between Tasmania’s First Nations people and the sea.

SS Woniora Shipping Simulator

Prepare for an adventure like no other as you step aboard the SS Woniora simulator. Feel the thrill as you take the captain’s wheel, navigating the tides of the Mersey River in a fully immersive, hyper-realistic maritime simulation.

Be transported back to the 1920s thanks to cutting-edge technology and lifelike visuals, as you steer through Devonport’s rich history and relive the golden age of steam and sail. With every turn of the helm and challenge of the tides, this exhilarating experience combines fun, education, and history, making it perfect for families, and thrill-seekers alike.
